Mother Courage and her Children

The Cart & The Chaplain (Daniel Hunter)

Role: ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Brecht’s image of the indestructible woman pulling her canteen cart through a war zone is a modern theatre icon. Hers is the story of the ‘little guys’: the battlers, the poor, the exploited. Ordinary life is put on hold by an extraordinary force: War. Brecht reveals how an average person is corrupted when conflict provides convenience-store profit. This fresh production, with songs re-mixed, reflects on contemporary conflicts across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. It asks us to think critically about the impact of war on community, family, and the individual; and makes us wonder who benefits from all this violence.
